Treasurer’s Report: Andrea Matthews presented the Treasurer’s Report. The financial status of the Troop is satisfactory. The current financial report is available for review. Expenses have increased and dues collection has decreased. Fundraising is going well. Collections and expenses for the past year and month were reviewed.
Fundraising: Adult participation and leadership is needed for the Book Fair, Yard Sale, Teetertown Camporee, popcorn and pie sales, as well as the Spaghetti Dinner.
Cub Scouting: Webelos weekend is Oct 10-11, 2009.
Venturing: The Troop Committee met with members of the Venture Crew 188 Committee to discuss and develop solutions to problems of the Crew related to poor meeting attendance, poor event participation, development of programs of interest, as well as leadership roles by Crew members.
Solutions suggested included increased parent involvement in Venture meetings and activities. Planning for only one high adventure event a year may increase interest and participation. Also helpful may be a meeting of Crew members to explore interests, commitment, attendance and participation.
Development of a yearly calendar of free dates based on school calendars, exam dates, holidays, and family events may be helpful to promote planning and participation. A meeting of Crew parents may be needed to review commitment, interest, and participation to make the Crew beneficial to all.
Troop 288 and its committee will do all they can to help the Crew improve. A focus on skill building for a specific event requiring that skill may be helpful for members of both Troop 288 and Venture Crew 188.
Advancement:
§ Ruth Stieh is updating records on all Merit Badges completed by Scouts. Rank advancement requirements are being revised and updated with a new handbook which will be available online as well.
§ Progress reports on individual Life Scout candidates for Eagle rank were updated in detail by Art Dunn. Our next Eagle Scout will be the fiftieth Eagle Scout honored by Troop 288.
New Business/Scoutmaster’s Report:
§ New revised annual medical forms for Adults will be used starting in 2010 for active adults participating in Troop activities and camping.
§ Court of Honor is scheduled for Oct 13, 2009.
The next Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2009, at 7:30 PM at the home of Joyce Murphy.
